Friends of Bracken Lane (FOBL)

NEXT FOBL MEETING DATE 27TH JANUARY 2PM

Who we are....

We're your PTA!

  • We're friendly and we're hoping to raise lots and lots of money to provide little (and big!) extras for the children to help them enjoy school that little bit more.
  • We meet about every 2 months at school, usually on a Friday.  It lasts for an hour or so, starting after school drop off or just before pick up.  Younger children are welcome, there will be toys and cake!
  • We are a registered charity and non-profit making organisation.  Registration number 1165843.

So how do we raise the cash?

We try to use the seasons and calendar events to guide the programme of exciting fundraising activities.

  • We hold 3 discos per year for the children. The kids love strutting their stuff!
  • Summer-time sees us hold the School Summer Fair with cakes, stocks, bouncy castle, face painting and much, much more. Oh and did I forget to mention the bar?
  • At Christmas time the kids get to design their own printed Christmas cards that can be purchased.
  • We also run a Christmas Market with the opportunity for a little tipple and mince pie.
  • Other events include messy hair and non uniform days, Quiz nights and fashion shows.
  • Recently we've held an Easter Bunny Bounce and Gift shops for Mothers and Father's Day.

How can you help?

We'd love you to join us for brainstorming with ideas towards improving your school for your kids.

But you don’t have to come to the meetings to help…

  • Does your employer have access to charity funds that they can donate or do they offer match funding?
  • Do you or a member of your family have any particular skill that they may be able to offer to help the school?
  • Do a lot of internet shopping?  An easy way for everyone to help is logging into https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/fobl/ Every time you purchase something on line from certain stores, the store will donate a certain percentage to our cause, with no cost to you.

What have we done so far?

We have had a very successful year building on the achievements of previous years.  Our fundraising income increased to £10,293 for the year ending August 2016.

I think you'll agree that is a staggering amount which we couldn't have done without the help of you, the teachers and of course the children with their endless enthusiasm.

We've been helped tremendously by local businesses through stalls, donations and sponsorship. A special thank you goes to Newton Fallowell who sponsors our advertising boards and the Tag Rugby team, Gap Signs Technology for producing our summer fair advertising banners and Prima Party for donating free use of the bouncy castle for the Easter Bunny Hop.

Through the school events we’re hoping to build a stronger community involving local businesses.

What have we spent the money on so far?

We have made donations totalling £6,609 to the school this year including...

  • Playground equipment
  • Gym equipment for the school hall
  • Bee-Bots
  • Music systems
  • Digital cameras
  • Outdoor equipment for each class
  • Uniform for our Country Dancing Team
  • Contributions to the Year 6 year book
  • Contributions to Young Voices school bus
  • ...and much much more

We have also recently agreed to purchase goal posts, a cricket fold, an all weather surface for under the tractor and maypole for the Country Dancers.

Goals for the future.

What our school desperately needs is a Multiple Use Games Areas or MUGA.

This highly durable specialised surface is designed to maximise the play characteristics of a variety of sports and activities, rather than being just for a single sport.

So you can guess it isn't cheap. It's a whopping £30,000!!!!

I think it's worth it. Don't you?

We won’t be forgetting all the other things that FOBL help with.  We’ll be still making sure that the school gets all those little extras to help our children enjoy school.

So that's why Friends Of Bracken Lane needs you!

Do you think you could join the team? Help with ideas and fundraising events?

So join us, for all or part of the meeting.  Our next meeting date will be on the school calendar.

We know that many people would love to join us but have other commitments so please email us with any suggestions about fundraising ideas or ideas to improve the school.

Feel free to contact the committee directly at friendsofbrackenlane@gmail.com
